Many grades of Wacker Elastosil silicone compounds are employed in the sealing of a myriad of automotive components. Silicones are typically employed in engine seals, transmission components, airbags, electric and electronic devices, and body fittings, to name a few. Elastosil RTV-1 and RTV-2 types are being used to produce Form In Place Gaskets (FIPG), Cure in Place Gaskets (CIPG), and most recently Liquid Injected Seals (LIS) created by injection directly into the joint of a predesigned component. Typically, these materials are applied using fully automatic equipment employing varying degrees of robotics. Elastosil RT and Semicosil grades are being used to bond electronic components or to provide protection against changes of temperature and vibration. Elastosil SC materials produce cured FOAM products that exhibit good sound insulation while providing extreme heat resistance and flame retardancy.
